Queen of Island Reggae
R&B Reggae — Island Soul
◆ Kailua, Hawaii ◆
Her Story
Born July 7, 1982, in Kailua, Hawaii, Irie Love Taylor carries the island in her blood. A descendant of the legendary Love's Bakery founder Robert Love, she grew up steeped in Hawaii's rich heritage — a legacy of warmth, community, and creation. Her father, former NFL linebacker John Taylor, named her after Third World's song "Irie Ites," planting the seeds of reggae deep in her soul before she ever stepped on a stage.
That destiny took shape early. In 1999, the teenage Irie Love was a finalist on Honolulu's "Brown Bags to Stardom" — and the island was listening. By 2002, she was lending her voice as a backup vocalist for global pop star Pink, a testament to a gift that transcended genres. But the ocean kept calling her home, and her heart kept calling her toward reggae.
In 2006, she made the pilgrimage to Kingston, Jamaica — the birthplace of the music she loved — to forge her sound with purpose and intention. Just one year later, she was signed to Morgan Heritage's Gedion Music, one of the most respected labels in roots reggae. Her debut EP Ehiku arrived in October 2008, and the world began to hear what Hawaii already knew.
Her 2012 album This Is Irie Love hit the iTunes USA Top 50, and her singles "It Is Wut It Is" (featuring Fiji) and "My Love" both climbed to #1 on the Hawaiian Reggae Charts. Today, with 235,000+ monthly Spotify listeners and a brand new 2025 album, the Queen of Island Reggae is still writing her most beautiful chapters yet.
